Ofcourse it hurts....

Yesterday i got a call from a School friend of mine after a long time.

After our usual gupshup, she started to ask how am i doing and hows my job. With all smiles i gave a satisfied answer and her curiosity rose to zeniths..How come if u are so cool and composed the media reports of layoffs,salary cuts and winding up of ur Organisation.

Rather than being happy may b my response evoked curiosity to ask me Direct Question.

She:"By the Way Vamsi Did u get your Full Salary last month"
Me: "Yes dear (with an AWE)"

She:"Oh gud to hear that. ANyways you have you have commitments i guess,So how are you planning to meet them incase of any adversities"
Me: "Iam mailing you my Account Number. Do transfer the amount and i shall meet my commitments. I dont need to be bothered when i have frenz like you (Emo-S-nal Atyachaar)"

She was little taken aback...may be was checking her inbox if i had really dropped my acc num.

She:" Hey !!!Do you know? " (just trying to deviate the topic)
Me: "Would have known had u called me after my last call which was 8 mnths back"

She: "my dad is searching matches for me"
me: thank God..God save the banda

She: "I rejected 2 matches out of the 4 finalised (as if she has chosen the final 2 contestents of Indian Idol)"

the going gets more interesting to mourn for...:-(

Me: "Bechaarey why didnt they qualify for the finals"(expressing my deepest regrts)
She: "they were from Satyam"

Me: speechlessss
She: "My Security is important to me"

Me: "have you spoken to the guyz atleast"
She:"Nope"

Me:"How did u decide that they are not gud without even speaking to them. may be the guys were better than ur final choices"
She: ---------

Me: "then do u mean that at this point of time even iam not gud enuff"
She: "hey i didnt mean that yaar...Did it hurt you"

Me: ---------

iam a part of - history in the making

1 Year is a long time and things change upside down.

Never realised the impact of this in such an elan. Today i had been to Bank of India, to collect some Educational Loan repayement receipts for IT submission.

The Bank Manager who takes care of the Loan's section is a very good person. Last year when i had been to his office for the same purpose as now he looked at me with honor as if i had brought a gold medal to india in olympics, bcoz his son who is about to complete his Engg has not made a Campus Placement still and he viewed me as a benchmark for his son.

1 Year down the lane, today when he saw me there was a spurious infecting smile in his face. The way he asked me are you still with Satyam, u guyz have become the National News, R they paying salaries...(Nothing offending) but curious Questions as he got a on hand employee who can address his tidbits.

I answered with utmost restraint to make him feel that his son still doesnt have a job in hand and i do have one.

But after coming out i felt sad, an act which was committed by 2-3 people has tarnished the global reputation of a company.

Also it reminds me that there is nothing notable to say when u work with a company when the firm is going thru gud times, it is testing times like these that we at Satyam are facing that prove our true level of commitment ,which many others are expecting by means of Service level bonds, and here are we who are ready to commit in spirit not in words.

Case Studies or Innovations happen during these times.

Every world renowned company had its tough time, GE,IBM,Dell,Apple..., everyone fought back and today they are no.1 even the books like Success of GE,Who said elephants can't dance (of IBM) are top sellars.

I see this opportunity as another new book of how to fight back in the making..All that goes down has to come up and we might have gone down..but there shall be a new day tommorow, new hope and new Satyam.

1 year down the line from today, most of them would forget about all this but the experience that i woud get out of this real time learning opportunity shall not be macthed by any B-School Case study discussion bcoz iam a part of ---History in the making :-)
