The White Tiger – Not my cup of tea.

Last week my sister brought this book “The White Tiger” written by Aravind Adiga. I have heard quite a lot about the book more so because of the recent Man Booker Prize being bestowed upon to it.

Adding too my interest was the fact that this was a Fiction based book. I started the book with great interest and after completing 50 pages felt the book was dragging. But I had my inner conscience telling me to see what’s so interesting in this book that it made to the coveted honor.

Pretending to be an Intellectual (as though I am and ardent fan of such booker prize books) I could hardly complete 100 pages. And the count is still going ahead. Whenever I am not feeling sleepy I try to induce sleep onto myself my re-opening this book.

Today after lunch, in my office I found an article about “The White Tiger” in Outlook magazine. Now since I have some information about what the book is about I tried to burry myself into the article. Off late all the reviews I read about this book, every one was gung-ho about the book.

But the article threw light on the other side of the coin. Thanks to the author for making me feel confident about my judgement. The author also agrees with me that the book was not so exciting one. Also the Times of India article quote starting with “allege” phrase made the reading interesting.

Now every book will have both lovers and dissidents, may be for this book I fall into the list of non ardent fans. May be this was not my cup of tea.

But nevertheless iam happy that an Indian author’s book has been selected for this honor (irrespective of the controversies surrounding it post the award)

Congratulations Adiga!!!
